Russia is for joint efforts with ASEAN to de-monopolize high-tech industry - Medvedev

BANGKOK, November 3. /TASS/: Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev called for joint efforts with ASEAN countries to de-monopolize the high-tech industry. He voiced this proposal in his speech at the ASEAN-2019 Business and Investment Summit.

"Companies and entire countries are getting increasingly dependent on hardware and software. Several corporations have great opportunities in this sector and in fact they often dominate the market," he said.

NONTHABURI, Thailand (AP) — Leaders from fast-growing Southeast Asian economies, China, Japan and other regional powers are aiming for a breakthrough on a free trade deal and an outline for handling territorial tensions at an annual summit that opened near Bangkok on Sunday.

Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told fellow leaders the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations should produce a basic agreement on their proposed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, a 16-member trade bloc encompassing nearly a third of all global trade.

US to send security envoy, commerce secretary to ASEAN meet

BANGKOK (AP) — The White House has announced that a national security adviser and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross will attend two summits in Thailand.

The announcement comes just days before the Associated of Southeast Asian Nations summit and East Asia summit near Thailand’s capital, where security is being ramped up.

The White House announcement said Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Robert C. O’Brien would lead the delegation.

World shares mixed after upbeat talk on China-US trade

Britain’s FTSE 100 edged 0.1% lower to 7,155.92, while the CAC 40 in Paris lost 0.5% to 5,622.37. Germany’s DAX was flat at 12,747.46. New York was set for a tepid start, with the future contract for the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.1% at 26,774.00. The S&P 500 future also lost 0.1% to 3,003.40.

Thailand says 'good feeling' over China-backed trade pact

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand has a “good feeling” that a China-backed free trade pact for countries with nearly half the world’s population will be agreed this year after years of delay, a Thai official said on Friday.

Negotiators for the 16-nation Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) are in the Thai capital this week to try to finalize what could become the world’s largest free trade zone with a third of global gross domestic product.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - The Chinese embassy in Bangkok has condemned Thai politicians for showing support for Hong Kong activists involved in anti-government protests, saying it could harm the relationship between the two countries.

The criticism was echoed by Thailand’s army chief, who on Friday spoke of “hidden agendas” in meetings between opposition activists.

Unhealthy Level Of Air Pollution Reported In Bangkok

BANGKOK, Sept 30 (NNN-TNA) – The Thai Pollution Control Department (PCD), reported today (Monday), an unhealthy level of air pollution, covering 15 main areas in Bangkok, with particulate matter smaller than PM2.5.

The PCD said, levels of 42-66 micro-grams per cubic metre were found in the air, exceeding the safety threshold of 50 micro-grams per cubic metre of air, to the unhealthy level between 53-66 micro-gram per cubic metre.
