Angola's national airline orders four Boeing 787 aircraft

LUANDA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Angola's national carrier, TAAG Angola Airlines, announced on Tuesday its plans to order four Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft for its fleet, according to a press release issued by the company.

"Our goal is to work with the best manufacturers in the world toward a multi-type fleet in order to ensure we have the appropriate airplanes for each flight typology, namely our intercontinental connections," said Eduardo Fairen, chief executive officer of TAAG Angola Airlines.

Fruitful talks between Cuba and Angola, Cuban Pres Díaz-Canel said

LUANDA, Aug 22 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel valued as fruitful the talks held with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, in which he confirmed the feeling of friendship and mutual trust that distinguish bilateral ties.

Angola drops COVID-19 test requirement for travellers

LUANDA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Angolan government has eliminated the requirement of presenting a vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 test result for travellers entering or leaving the country, starting from Saturday, according to a presidential decree.

The decree noted that face masks must be worn in healthcare facilities and similar services, while their use in other public areas is optional.

It is emphasized in the decree that departure from Angola may be subject to health surveillance requirements established by the destination country.

Angola plans tax incentives for diamond-cutting investors

LUANDA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Diamantino Azevedo announced Saturday that the country intends to create tax incentives to attract more investors to the diamond-cutting sector.

The announcement was made by the minister at the inauguration of the fifth diamond-cutting factory at Saurimo Diamond Development Park in Lunda Sul province.

Angolan president pledges to invest more in telecommunications

LUANDA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Angolan President Joao Lourenco said Friday that Angola would continue to invest in the country's telecommunication sector with more satellites and infrastructures to ensure that the sector helps develop the country.

The Angolan president made the statement after inaugurating the Satellite Control and Mission Center located in Luanda Province. The center will monitor and operate the country's first on-orbit satellite, Angosat-2.

Angola's Joao Lourenco takes oath of office for second term as president

LUANDA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The President-elect of Angola Joao Lourenco took the oath of office Thursday for a second term as the nation's president at a ceremony held in Luanda, the capital of Angola.

Joao Lourenco of the ruling People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) took the oath of office in the presence of at least 12 heads of state and dozens of other representatives.

The defense and security forces have a considerable presence in the main streets and avenues of Luanda during the inauguration day.

Angola major opposition party to file complaint against election results

LUANDA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Angola's main opposition party, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), on Tuesday said it would contest the election results and lodge a complaint that seeks to suspend the announcement of the Aug. 24 general election final results.

This came after the National Electoral Commission (CNE) announced Monday that the ruling party, the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), won the 2022 general elections by gaining 51.17 percent of the votes cast.

Angola's ruling party leads in election

LUANDA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Angola's ruling party, the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola, has gained 51.07 percent of the votes already counted for the Aug. 24 general elections, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) announced Thursday.

The announcement came as votes from more than 97 percent of polling stations across the country have been counted, according to the CNE.

The largest opposition party, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola, garnered 44.05 percent of votes, the CNE said.
