Storm Podul hits 26 provinces in Thailand, killing 14

BANGKOK, Sept 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Tropical storm Podul has hit 26 provinces in Thailand, triggering floods and landslides, killing at least 14 people.

Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department director-general Chayapol Thitisak said tropical storm Podul lashed the kingdom since Aug 29 to Sept 2 and 60,914 families were affected.

“Two are still missing in Amnat Charoen while one was injured in Chaiyaphum,” he said in a statement here Wednesday.

Thailand, South Korea sign cooperation agreements, MOUs

BANGKOK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Thailand and South Korea on Monday signed several agreements in varied aspects of bilateral cooperation.

At Government House, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the visiting South Korean President Moon Jae-in witnessed the signing of the cooperation agreements between the two governments. Thailand and South Korea are mutually viewed as strategic partners at bilateral, sub-regional and regional levels.

The South Korean president is paying an official visit to Thailand as guest of the Thai government from Sunday until Tuesday.

Disasters triggered by climate change growing in intensity, says report

BANGKOK, Aug 23 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Disasters,  especially those triggered by climate change and environmental degradation, have deviated from their usual tracks and are growing in intensity, frequency and complexity, according to a report. 

The Asia-Pacific Disaster Report 2019 launched Thursday revealed  that recent disasters were showing that it is now more difficult to determine which areas should prepare for what kind of disaster.

UN report condemns sexual violence by Myanmar military

Thailand plans $10 billion stimulus to support economy

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand is planning a stimulus package worth $10 billion that will include support for farmers and tourism, its finance minister said on Friday, in a move to shore up a flagging economy.

India again rejects Trump’s Kashmir mediation offer

BANGKOK (AP) — India on Friday again rejected President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate its dispute with Pakistan over Kashmir.

India’s foreign minister said he told Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that any discussion of the disputed Himalayan region would be between India and Pakistan only. The two men met on Friday on the sidelines of an Asian security forum in Bangkok. India has long refused outside attempts to resolve the conflict while Pakistan has sought international help.

Pompeo says US not asking Asia to take sides

BANGKOK (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday that Washington isn’t asking any Asian nation to take sides as it engages with the region where China is battling for influence and aggressively expanding territorial claims in the South China Sea.

Pompeo hailed an Indo-Pacific engagement framework adopted by the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in June, saying it supports sovereignty, transparency, good governance and a rules-based order among other things.

British delegation requests meeting with Russia's top diplomat in Bangkok, source says

BANGKOK, July 31. /TASS/: The British delegation requested a bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Bangkok, a source close to the negotiations told TASS on Wednesday.

"The British had requested the meeting, but they disappeared saying that they needed instructions of the leadership," the source said.
