Britain Foreign Secretary in 4-country tour of Latin America and Caribbean to cement partnerships on climate, people and peace

KINGSTON (Jamaica), May 22 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Britain Foreign Secretary James Cleverly is visiting countries across Latin America, Colombia, Chile and Brazil, and Jamaica in the Caribbean over the next 7 days to renew the UK’s relationship with the influential region.

Cleverly arrived in Jamaica on May 18, on the first leg of a 4-country trip that will focus on climate, democracy, and the links between our people.

Jamaica’s prime minister offers troops to address Haiti crisis

KINGSTON, Feb 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Jamaica’s prime minister has said his government is willing to send soldiers and police officers to Haiti as part of a proposed multinational security assistance deployment.

The announcement comes a week after the United Nations special envoy for Haiti, Helen La Lime, said she hoped the UN Security Council would deal “positively” with the pending request from Haiti’s government for international armed forces, despite Canada and the United States showing no interest.

Jamaica gang trial tests new anti-crime laws amid wave of violence

KINGSTON, Feb 14 (Reuters) - A trial of dozens of alleged gang members in Jamaica is testing recent judicial reforms designed to fight the island's powerful criminal groups, widely blamed for the Caribbean nation having one of the world's highest murder rates.

Jamaica's Supreme Court is trying the 33 defendants on charges including arson, murder and being part of a criminal organization. The offenses were allegedly committed between 2015 and 2019 on the western outskirts of the capital Kingston.
