Vietnam's authorities confiscate 98 kg synthetic drugs

HANOI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese authorities have seized 98 kg of synthetic drugs sent from Germany, Vietnam News Agency reported on Friday.

Three people have been arrested for their involvement in this case, the news agency cited Colonel Pham Quynh, deputy head of the Drug Crime Investigation Department under Hanoi City Police.

Upon examining suspicious parcels sent from Germany to Vietnam via Noi Bai International Airport, the police and customs forces of the capital Hanoi have found and seized 98 kg of synthetic drugs, he said.

New COVID-19 sub-variant found in Vietnam

HANOI, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- A new version of Omicron called XBB has been recorded in southern Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, local media reported on Wednesday.

The COVID-19 sub-variant was reported in December last year and accounted for a small share only, according to a COVID-19 research team of the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit.

During the second half of 2022, the southern city reported mostly Omicron and Delta variants, according to Vietnam News Agency.

Nearly 6,400 People Died Due To Traffic Accidents In Vietnam In 2022

HANOI, Dec 31 (NNN-VNA) – A total of 11,448 traffic accidents occurred in 2022 in Vietnam, killing 6,364 people, severely injuring 4,215 and slightly injuring 3,613, according to the country’s Traffic Police Department, yesterday.

The number of traffic accidents and slight injuries decreased by 0.3 percent and 12.1 percent, respectively, while the number of deaths and severe injuries rose 9.9 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam's stock market capitalization reaches 62.2 pct of GDP

HANOI, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- The capitalization of Vietnam's stock market has reached nearly 5.3 quadrillion Vietnamese dong (223 billion U.S. dollars) so far this year, down 32 percent against the same period last year, according to the State Securities Commission of Vietnam on Wednesday.

The capitalization in the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE), the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) and the Unlisted Public Company Market (UPCoM) is equivalent to 62.2 percent of Vietnam's GDP, Vietnam News Agency cited the commission which announced the statistics at a conference on Wednesday.

Exports, domestic demand, investment among Vietnam's economic growth drivers in 2022: WB

HANOI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's strong economic performance in 2022, with GDP growth likely to reach 7.2 percent, has been driven mainly by exports, domestic demand and private investment, according to World Bank's Lead Economist and Program Leader for Vietnam Andrea Coppola.

The country's exports have been very strong in the past and shown to be resilient, including during the COVID-19 pandemic when manufacturing exports were the main driver of GDP growth, Vietnam News Agency cited Coppola as reporting on Wednesday.

President Museveni woos Vietnamese to invest in Uganda

HANOI, Nov 26 (NNN-NEWVISION) — President Yoweri Museveni attended and addressed the first-ever Uganda-Vietnam business summit and trade exhibition at the International Convention Centre, Hanoi, Vietnam, under the theme “Unlocking investment opportunities.”

Vietnam, New Zealand Signed Cooperation Deals On Education, Transport

HANOI, Nov 15 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnamese Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, and his New Zealand counterpart, Jacinda Ardern, yesterday, witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents, after their talks here.

Cooperation deals between the ministries of education, and transport were signed. One of the deals involves civil aviation cooperation.

Vietnam's capital on alert with increasing dengue fever cases

HANOI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's capital Hanoi is on alert as it has seen the biggest increase in dengue fever cases in the country, local media reported on Wednesday.

The weekly number of infections in the city has risen from 500 to 700 per week in September to 1,200 to 1,400 at the end of October, the Vietnam News reported.

The city has recorded nearly 10,000 dengue fever cases so far this year, almost tripling the number of the same period in 2021.

Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has reported a total of 292,439 cases of dengue fever and 112 deaths.

Vietnam police seize 11 kg drugs in drug-trafficking bust

HANOI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Police in southern Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City have busted a drug-trafficking ring, seizing more than 11 kg of drugs, Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The police directed relevant authorities to crack down on a drug trafficking ring led by a 45-year-old woman, who is a resident of Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 on Nov. 5, the news agency reported.

Vietnam’s Phone Export Up 7.6 Percent In 10 Months

HANOI, Nov 2 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam earned over 50.1 billion U.S. dollars from exporting phones and components, in the first 10 months of this year, according to the country’s General Statistics Office, today.

The number accounts for more than 16 percent of the country’s total export revenue over the period, and posted a year-on-year rise of 7.6 percent.

With that revenue, phones and components continued to be Vietnam’s largest export items, followed by computers and electronic components, as well as, garments and textiles.
