India: 10 crows found dead in Haryana's Jind

Chandigarh, Jan 7 (PTI) Ten crows were found dead in Kalauda village of Jind district in Haryana amid state on high alert due to unusual mortality at poultry farms in Panchkula.

The deaths were reported on Thursday, officials said, adding that samples taken from the birds have been sent to a lab in Jalandhar for testing.

Officials said the deaths could be caused due to cold or fertilisers sprayed in the fields.

India: Honour killing in Haryana over intercaste marriage

Chandigarh, Jan 2 (PTI) A 23-year-old man who married a woman belonging to a different caste was stabbed to death allegedly by his brother-in-law in Panipat, police said on Saturday, the second suspected case of honour killing in Haryana in the past three days.

Neeraj had married in November, but the brother of the woman was unhappy over the marriage, according to police.

India: Couple who wanted to marry shot dead in Haryana, honour killing suspected

Rohtak (Haryana), Dec 30 (PTI) A couple who planned to marry were shot dead in broad daylight here on Wednesday in a suspected case of honour killing, police said.

The parents of the man, aged around 25, and the woman, who was nearly 27 years old, were to meet for working out some modalities for a court marriage. However, the woman's family did not turn up, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sajjan Singh said.

India: Repeal farm laws: OP Chautala

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (PTI) Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday seeking withdrawal of the Centre's new farm laws or suspension of those until a consensus is reached with all farmer organisations and experts.

The 85-year-old president of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) said no concrete solution to the issue has been found so far because of the "stubborn" attitude of the government.

Nepalese woman gang-raped in India's Haryana state

Yamunanagar (Har), Dec 26 (PTI) A Nepalese woman was allegedly raped by five men in front of her husband in a village here, police said on Saturday.

According to police, the accused entered the victim's rented house Thursday night. They beat up the woman's husband, a farm labourer, and tied him with ropes. The accused then took turns to rape her.

India: Farmers halt toll collection on most highways in Haryana

Chandigarh, Dec 25 (PTI) Responding to a call given by the Bharatiya Kisan Union, farmers protesting the Centre's new farm laws halted toll collection on most highways in Haryana on Friday.

According to officials, toll collection was halted either past midnight or from early Friday morning at several toll points in the state.

India: Farmers picket toll plazas in Haryana, commuters pass through free

Chandigarh, Dec 12 (PTI) Intensifying their protest against the Centre's new agri laws, farmers took over some toll plazas in Haryana on Saturday, not allowing authorities to collect fees from commuters.

The agitating farmers had earlier said they would picket toll plazas to press their demand for a repeal of the three new laws, which were voted through in Parliament in September amid strong protests by opposition parties.

India: Haryana health minister tests COVID positive after taking trial vaccine fortnight ago

Chandigarh, Dec 5 (PTI) Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, who had got one shot of the two-dose trial of COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin a fortnight ago after he offered to be a volunteer, on Saturday said he has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Vij, 67, had offered to be the first volunteer in the phase three trials for Covaxin, an indigenous potential vaccine being developed by Bharat Biotech against COVID-19. He was administered the dose on November 20 at the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment, about 50 km from Chandigarh.

India: Bring MLA, MPs under right to recall: Hooda

Chandigarh, Nov 7 (PTI) Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday asserted that the right to recall must be first applicable on MLAs and MPs and only then it should be allowed for members of panchayati raj institutions.

"The right to recall should be implemented for MLAs and MPs first. After that it should be taken to the lower level," Hooda, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Assembly, said.
