India: Khattar govt in Haryana survives trust vote comfortably

Chandigarh, Mar 10 (PTI) The BJP-JJP government in Haryana survived the floor test on Wednesday, comfortably defeating the no-confidence motion moved against it by the main opposition Congress.

The motion was defeated following the division of votes.

At the end of a marathon six-hour discussion on the motion, Speaker Gian Chand Gupta announced in the House that 55 members had voted against the motion while 32 legislators had backed it.

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) Endless rows of women clothed in bright yellow and green colours, representing the hues of harvest, sat attentively under a collage of coloured canopies at Delhi borders on Monday.

Passionate speeches by fellow women farmers captured the attention of thousands of these women who have been protesting against the Centre's new farm laws.

On International Women's Day, hundreds of women took to streets while raising slogans of "kisan ekta" (farmer unity) and some broke into nonchalant rhythmic steps of bhangra'.

India: Farmers to block KMP Expressway on Saturday

New Delhi, Mar 1 (PTI) Protesting farmers will block the Kundli Manesar Palwal Expressway on March 6, a Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader said on Monday.

Balbir Singh Rajewal said that a call has been given to farmers camping at three Delhi border points to block the KMP Expressway from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday.

India: Rs 500 fine for not wearing mask in Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 1 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar directed officers on Monday to provide at least five free masks and also start the drive of imposing a fine on those who are found without masks.

"Though vaccination for COVID-19 has been rolled out, but still we should religiously follow all the guidelines like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing to stay safe and to ensure containment of virus spread," Khattar said as he appealed to the people to wear masks whenever they venture out.

India: 4-year-old raped in Haryana's Sonipat

Chandigarh, Feb 28 (PTI) A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 36-year-old man in Haryana's Sonipat district, police said on Sunday.

The accused living near the victim's house falling in an area under the Rai police station allegedly lured her to his place and raped her on Friday night, said police.

The accused has been arrested, a police official said over the phone.

A case of rape under the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered, said the police official.

India: 17-yr-old girl drugged, raped by five youths in Haryana

Kurukshetra, Feb 25 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl, a class 12 student, was allegedly drugged and raped by five youths, including the cousin of one of her friends, near her village in Kurukshetra district, police said on Thursday.

Three of the accused have been nabbed by the police while efforts are on to arrest two others, an official said.

Among the three arrested, two are 18 years old while the third one is a juvenile, who was sent to an observation home.

India: Rats nibble farmer's body kept at mortuary in Haryana

Chandigarh, Feb 19 (PTI) The body of a 72-year-old farmer was allegedly gnawed at by rats at the mortuary of the civil hospital in Haryana's Sonipat district, prompting the authorities to order a probe.

The incident came to light on Thursday morning when the family of Rajender found injury marks on his face and foot.

Charkhi Dadri (Har), Feb 7 (PTI) Asserting that the agitation against the Centre's farm laws is a people's movement that will not fail, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Sunday said there will be no "ghar wapsi" till protesting farmers' demands are met.

Tikait lauded the role of "khap panchayats" (caste councils) and their leaders in supporting the farmers' stir.

Chandigarh, Jan 29 (PTI) Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Digvijay Singh Chautala on Friday called farmer leader Rakesh Tikait a true patriot and said he has always talked about farmers' interests.

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Tikait and others in connection with the violence in the national capital during the farmers' tractor rally on Republic Day.

India: After SC order, farmers should end protest: Khattar

Chandigarh, Jan 12 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said the farmers protesting at Delhi's borders should end their agitation now following the formation of a committee by the Supreme Court over the new farm laws.

The ball is now in the court of the SC and I feel whatever is its decision, it will be acceptable to all, he said, welcoming the SC order.

The Supreme Court stayed till further orders the implementation the three central agri-marketing laws over which farmers from Punjab and Haryana have been protesting for weeks.
