KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli faced a fresh political challenge on Friday as hundreds of opponents protested against his sudden move to dissolve parliament and call elections more than a year ahead of the schedule.

Three former prime ministers joined hundreds of activists who sat on a road near Oli’s office demanding he reverse the decisions announced on Sunday, which have triggered deep political unrest in the Himalayan nation just as it grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kathmandu, Dec 22 (PTI) The ruling Nepal Communist Party on Tuesday appeared to be headed for a split after the warring factions held separate Central Committee meetings, with Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli announcing a new 1,199-member committee to organise the party's general convention in an effort to strengthen his hold on it.

Oli, who is also one of the two chairmen of the ruling party, announced the new committee during a meeting of the party's Central Committee members close to him at Baluwatar, the prime minister's official residence, the Kathmandu Post reported.

KATHMANDU, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Nepali government has sent requests to a number of the countries that are producing COVID-19 vaccines seeking early availability of vaccines when they are proved effective, Nepali officials said.

Such requests were made after the Nepali government introduced an ordinance last week, paving the way for bringing the COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use.

Kathmandu, Nov 6 (PTI) Problems between Nepal and India would be resolved through dialogue, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli said on Friday during a meeting here with Indian Army chief Gen. M M Naravane who paid a courtesy call on him.

Gen Naravane's three-day visit to Nepal was largely aimed at resetting bilateral ties that came under severe strain following a bitter border row between the two countries.

KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Three advisers to Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli said on Saturday they had tested positive for COVID-19, which has claimed the lives of 528 people in the country.

Oli’s press, political and foreign affairs advisers told Reuters they had been infected and were isolating themselves.

An assistant working for Oli also tested positive, they added.

Oli has previously tested negative, but had yet to take a test after his associates tested positive, press adviser Surya Thapa said.

Pithoragarh, July 31 (PTI) BJP MP from Almora Ajay Tamta on Friday said border issues between Nepal and India will soon be solved mutually keeping in mind the close ties between the two countries.

Reacting to reports about alleged encroachment by Nepal in the no man's land at Tanakpur border, Tamta said the government agencies concerned are keeping an eye on the borders and expressed hope that a solution will be found soon.

Kathmandu, Jul 4 (PTI) A crucial meeting of Nepal's ruling communist party to decide the political future of embattled Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli was postponed until Monday to allow more time for the top leadership to iron out their differences over his autocratic style of functioning and anti-India statements.

The meeting of the Nepal Communist Party's 45-member powerful Standing Committee was scheduled to be held on Saturday at 11 AM local time. But it was postponed at the last minute.

KATHMANDU, June 21 (NNN-NEPALNEWS) – The Rasuwagadhi-Kerung (Geelong) border point, between Nepal and China, is likely to reopen within a week after the closure for about five months, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nepali officials said.

It is one of the two main border points for international trade between the two countries. The Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border point remained closed since Jan. The Tatopani-Zhangmu border point was reopened in late Mar.

KATHMANDU, June 15 (NNN-NEPALNEWS) – The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), issued a statement on Sunday, saying, the suspension period of all domestic and international commercial passenger flights has been extended till July 5.

“Special permission from CAAN is required for repatriation flights, rescue flights, freighter flights and flights related to medical and other essential supplies,” the statement read.

All the flights, except special charter flights, have been suspended in the Nepali sky, since the lock-down in the country on Mar 24.

Pithoragarh, May 24 (PTI) The Nepalese army is developing in their territory a track route parallel to the Indian border to reach their high-altitude villages of Tinkar and Changru to minimise their citizens' dependence on an Indian track route, said an Indian official.
