CHISINAU, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Moldova's pro-Western government resigned on Friday after a turbulent 18 months in power marked by economic turmoil and the spillover effects of Russia's war in neighbouring Ukraine.

President Maia Sandu accepted Prime Minister's Natalia Gavrilita's resignation and nominated 48-year-old presidential aide and former interior minister Dorin Recean to replace her.

Recean, who is expected to quickly win parliamentary approval, said he would press on with Moldova's bid to join the European Union and revive the economy

CHISINAU, January 21. /TASS/: The decision to abandon neutrality enshrined in Moldova’s constitution and join a military alliance should be made by citizens through a democratic process, President Maia Sandu said in an interview with Politico.

Chisinau, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu announced an energy deal on Saturday he said would reduce the risk of large-scale electricity outages in the former Soviet republic.

Spinu said state utilities firm Energocom would purchase enough electricity from the country's largest power station to cover all of Moldova's needs for December when combined with existing imports from Romania.

CHISINAU, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Russian missile strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure caused blackouts across half of neighbouring Moldova, the deputy prime minister of Moldova said on Wednesday.

"Massive blackout in Moldova after today's Russian attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure," Andrei Spuni, who also serves as infrastructure minister, said on Twitter.

By around 3:35 p.m., (1335 GMT), power was restored in the capital Chisinau, according to a Reuters journalist.

CHISINAU, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Moldova declared a Russian embassy employee in the capital Chisinau persona non grata on Monday, and Russian news agencies quoted Moscow as saying it would respond to the decision.

The Moldovan Foreign Ministry did not identify the employee in a statement issued after the Russian ambassador was summoned and informed that the employee must leave Moldova.

CHISINAU, October 20. /TASS/: Moldova has paid for the current gas supplies to Gazprom, Vadim Cheban chairman of the board of the Moldovagaz gas distribution company announced on Thursday.

"With the assistance of the government of the republic of Moldova, JSC Moldovagaz transferred $53.5 million to PJSC Gazprom for September natural gas supplies. The company also transferred $27.4 million to the supplier as an advance payment in the amount of 50% of the total payment for supplies in October," Cheban wrote in his Telegram channel.

CHISINAU, Sept 18 (Reuters) - At least 5,000 people rallied in Moldova's capital on Sunday, demanding the resignation of the government and pro-Western President Maia Sandu, blaming them for high inflation and rising energy prices.

Moldova buys its gas from the Russian gas giant Gazprom (GAZP.MM) under a contract that was drawn up last year. The price fluctuates monthly and is calculated from the spot price for gas and oil depending on the season. Spot prices have soared this year.

CHISINAU, August 22. /TASS/: Relations with Russia are a strategic priority for the unrecognized Transnistrian republic, its leader Vadim Krasnoselsky said on Monday in his congratulations on the occasion of Russia's State Flag Day.

Tehran, IRNA - Iran’s embassy in Ukraine asked the Iranian nationals in Moldova to leave the country.

Considering the continuation of war in Ukraine and the possibility of expansion of war to Transnistria, the embassy asked Iranian nationals to leave the country.

The embassy also wished health and success for all Iranian nationals, especially those residing in Ukraine.
