Malaysian resort company sues Disney, Fox over theme park

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Resort developer Genting Malaysia has filed a lawsuit in California seeking at least $1 billion in damages from Walt Disney Co. and Fox Entertainment Group for alleged breach of contract related to a theme park, the company said Tuesday.

The lawsuit filed Monday in the Central California District Court cites damages from Fox’s withdrawal from an agreement set in 2013 to license its intellectual property for a Fox World theme park in Resort World Genting, a sprawling facility perched on a mountain in Malaysia.

EAEU to create free trade zone with ASEAN, says Russian expert

Malaysia charges another former ally of ex-PM Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian prosecutors charged another former ally of ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak with multiple counts of corruption on Monday as the government continues investigation into the alleged wrongdoing by its predecessor.

Musa Aman, former chief minister of state of Sabah, was charged with 35 counts of corruption involving 263 million ringgit (about 63 million U.S dollars).

The charges involved receiving bribes to approve timber concessions during Musa's 2003 to 2018 tenure as chief minister.

Malaysia's Anwar expected to return to parliament in by-election

PORT DICKSON, Malaysia, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's former deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is expected to be voted back to the parliament following the by-election on Saturday.

Voters in Port Dickson, a coastal town and a tourist attraction, are expected to elected the 71-year-old Anwar as member of the lower house of parliament, complement to the ruling Pakatan Harapan's surprising victory in the May general election.

After living 200 days in Malaysian airport - Hassan al-Kontar got arrested

Kuala Lumpur; 2 October 2018: Hassan al-Kontar is a Syrian who lived in Malaysian airport for more than 200 days before Malaysian authorities arrested and removed him  on Monday.

Al-Kontar was stranded there since March after failing in his attempts to gain asylum in Ecuador and Cambodia, and then being refused entry on his return to Malaysia.

Wife of former Malaysian leader arrested in graft scandal

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s anti-graft agency said Wednesday that the wife of former Prime Minister Najib Razak has been arrested and will face money laundering charges in a graft scandal involving the 1MDB state investment fund.

The agency said Rosmah Mansor was detained at its headquarters in the Putrajaya government administrative center about four hours after she arrived for a third round of questioning over alleged theft and money laundering at the fund.

Malaysia anti-graft agency arrests former leader Najib Razak

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s anti-graft agency said it arrested former Prime Minister Najib Razak on Wednesday over the multimillion-dollar looting of a state investment fund and that he will face further charges in court.

The agency said Najib was detained at its office and will be taken to court on Thursday to face the charges.

Najib was earlier charged with multiple counts of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering over the scandal at the 1MDB state fund. He has pleaded not guilty.

Malaysia's Central Bank international reserves at US$104.2 bln as at Aug 15

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia Aug 21 (NNN-Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) (Malaysia's central bank) international reserves amounted to US$104.2 billion as at Aug 15 compared with US$104.5 billion as at July 31, 2018.

In a statement today, the central bank said the reserves were sufficient to finance 7.6 months of retained imports and were 0.9 times the short-term external debt.

MALAYSIA'S FERTILITY RATE DROPS TO LOWEST LEVEL EVER RECORDED

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (NNN-NST) -- The national fertility rate this year is expected to decline to the lowest level recorded since the formation of Malaysia in 1963, with 15.8 births per 1,000 people compared to 16.1 in 2017.

According to the 2018 Malaysia's Selected Demographic Indicator, the overall fertility rate of Malaysian women aged 15 to 49 is estimated at 19.1 children, which is below the replacement level of 2.1 children.

US-CHINA TRADE WAR BENEFITS MALAYSIA -- DR MAHATHIR

LANGKAWI, Malaysia Aug 4 (NNN-Bernama) -- Malaysia is likely to benefit from the trade war between China and the United States (US) in terms of attracting foreign investors, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.

He said policies implemented in this trade war would benefit investors who could not invest in certain countries, thus benefiting countries that were not involved.
