VIENNA (Reuters) - The United States will do everything in its power to extend the international arms embargo on Iran under discussion at the United Nations, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday.

The U.N. Security Council has started voting on a U.S. bid to extend the embargo on Iran, which is opposed by veto-powers Russia and China, with results due on Friday.

Pompeo, on a visit to Austria, said Iran must also provide full and immediate cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency nuclear watchdog, whose head he was meeting in Vienna.

VIENNA (Reuters) - The agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates to normalize diplomatic ties has been welcomed by the United States, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday.

“It’s an important step forward for Middle East stability,” Pompeo told a press conference in Vienna. “It’s a good moment for the world and its security.”

VIENNA, July 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The illegal global trade in ivory has shrunk while the trafficking of pangolins has soared, a UN report on wildlife crime based on four years’ data said.

National bans on selling ivory, particularly China’s in 2017, appear to have helped further erode ivory trafficking after it peaked around 2011-2013, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said in its World Wildlife Crime Report, which was last published in 2016.

VIENNA, July 5. /TASS/: Austria’s investigators believe that the murder of an asylum seeker from Russia in Gerasdorf near the capital Vienna was a contract killing, OE24 news portal reported citing sources in law enforcement agencies on Sunday.

The killed man and the detained person could be natives of Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Chechnya. Police declined to confirm this.

VIENNA/ANKARA (Reuters) - Austria pledged on Monday to find out who was behind clashes between Kurdish and Turkish protesters in the Austrian capital last week that have further strained already tense relations between Vienna and Ankara.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry strongly criticised Austria’s handling of the protests, which it said were by groups linked to militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austria has agreed to a smaller-than-expected bailout package for Lufthansa unit Austrian Airlines of 450 million euros ($508 million) in loans and grants, people familiar with the matter said on Monday.

The package consists of 300 million euros in loans that the government will guarantee 90% of, as well as 150 million euros in grants, the people said. Lufthansa has agreed to provide its Austrian unit with an additional 150 million euro grant of its own, they added.
