India: One nation, one election fancy idea of BJP: CPI

Hyderabad, Jun 17 (PTI) One nation, one election is a "fancy idea" of the BJP and it's neither possible nor necessary, said the Communist Party of India.

CPI's national general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy asked what would happen if some state governments were to fall during their term for one reason or the other.

"What will happen to all these states (where governments fail to complete their term)? there will be by-elections. You cannot deny democratic rights of the people and ask them to wait till the next election," he told PTI.

India: Self-styled godmanarrested for 'raping' teenager

Hyderabad, June 16 (PTI): A self-styled godman was taken into custody for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl at her house here under the pretext of ridding her house of evil spirits, police said Sunday.

The accused (25), claiming to have supernatural powers, had told the teenager's parents there were evil spirits in her house and that he would help in getting rid of them, and then took them to a shrine in Bidar district of Karnataka a week ago, police said based on a complaint.

India: CPI once again reaches out to CPI(M) for reunification

Hyderabad, Jun 13 (PTI) The CPI has once again reached out to the CPI(M) for a reunification of the two communist parties, hoping this time the cadre would exert pressure on its leadership to respond positively after their Lok Sabha poll debacle.

India: Jagan to have five deputy CMs in Cabinet

Amaravati, Jun 7 (PTI) In what could be an unprecedented move, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy Friday decided to have five deputy chief ministers under him in a full 25-member Cabinet.

The new Council of Ministers will be constituted at a public function here Saturday.

The Chief Minister held a meeting of the YSR Congress Legislature Party at his residence here in the morning where he announced the decision to appoint five deputy chief ministers.

India: Major reshuffle of IAS, IPS officers in AP

Amaravati, June 4 (PTI): In the first major rejig of the state administration since Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy became Chief Minister, the Andhra Pradesh government Tuesday night transferred several IAS and IPS officers.

In all, 49 IAS and six IPS were transferred in the reshuffle.

IAS officers who enjoyed key posts during the five-year tenure of Chandrababu Naidu, including his Special Chief Secretary Satish Chandra, have been left out without any posting for the time being.

India: Chandrababu Naidu elected as TDLP leader

Amaravati, May 29 (PTI) TDP president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was unanimously elected as the leader of the Telugu Desam Legislature Party (TDLP) here on Wednesday.

A meeting of the TDLP, attended by the newly-elected MLAs and MPs of the party, was held at Naidu's residence.

The TDP, which ruled the state from June 2014, faced a rout at the hands of the YSR Congress Party in the just-concluded election to the state Assembly, winning just 23 of the 175 seats.

India: Jaganmohan Reddy sworn in as Andhra Pradesh CM

Amaravati (AP), May 30 (PTI) Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who led his YSR Congress Party to a thumping victory in the assembly elections, was sworn in Thursday as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Governor E S L Narasimhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 46-year-old leader, whose party emerged victorious in 151 seats in the 175-member strong state assembly.

The YSR Congress decimated the TDP headed by N Chandrababu Naidu, who became the first chief minister of the state after it was bifurcated to carve out Telangana five years ago.

India: Chritian Evangelist KA Paul booked for cheating

Hyderabad, May 29 (PTI): A case of cheating has been registered against evangelist and Praja Shanti Party founder KA Pauland his associates for allegedly duping a 54-year old woman here of Rs 2 lakh by promising to get her a US visa, police said.

The woman, a resident of Ramachandrapuram near here stated she came in contact with Paul on April 22 with regard to securing a visa to the US and as per his advise met him and his associates at his office in Ameerpet here on May 7, police added.

Hyderabad, May 26 (PTI) AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi Sunday alleged that those behind the attack on three people in Madhya Pradesh over beef rumours were voters of BJP and Narendra Modi and claimed mob lynching in the name of cow vigilantism would continue.

Indian Polls: Governor invites Jagan Mohan Reddy to form govt in AP

Hyderabad, May 25 (PTI) The Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana E S L Narasimhan Saturday invited YSR Congress president Y S Jagan mohan Reddy to form the government in AP.

The swearing-in ceremony would be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium, Vijayawada on May 30 at 12.23 PM, a Raj Bhavan communique said here.

It said Botcha Satyanarayana and other YSR Congress elected members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly called on the Governor and informed him about the election of Reddy as the leader of the YSR Congress Legislature Party.
