India: Saturdays to be working now: Kerala govt

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 14 (PTI) After withdrawing the night curfew and stringent lockdown measures on Sundays, which were imposed in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the state, the Kerala government on Tuesday decided to restore Saturdays as working days, wherever applicable.

"All employees are instructed to report for duty (on Saturdays) accordingly," an order issued by the Disaster Management Department said.

Kollam, Sep 10 (PTI) Kerala police on Friday submitted the charge sheet in the Vismaya case in which an Ayurveda medical student was found dead in her husband's house under mysterious circumstances after she had complained of dowry harassment.

Kollam Rural SP KB Ravi, who arrived at the local court to submit the charge sheet, told the media that the case had shocked the conscience of the state.

India: Kerala boy dies due to Nipah virus

Kozhikode, Sep 5 (PTI) A 12-year-old boy died due to Nipah virus infection at a hospital here, state Health Minister Veena George said on Sunday.

The samples of the boy, which were sent to the Pune National Institute of Virology, confirmed the presence of Nipah virus.

"Unfortunately, the boy passed away at 5 in the morning. The condition of the child was critical yesterday night. We formed various teams yesterday night and have started the tracing. Steps have been taken to isolate those who are the primary contact of the boy," the minister told the media.

India: Rise in COVID cases; Kerala reimposes Sunday lockdown

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 27 (PTI) The Kerala government on Friday decided to continue with Sunday lockdown in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.

The government, facing flak from opposition and public health experts for alleged poor COVID-19 management in the state, tonight issued an order in this regard.

It said lockdown shall be in force on Sundays, with only limited permissible activities.

India: Kerala CM orders setting up CCTV cameras in hospitals

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 9 (PTI): A day after the Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) petitioned the State government to increase security at hospitals, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday directed the authorities concerned to set up security cameras.

At a high-level meeting called for by him to discuss the attacks against the doctors, Vijayan said stern action would be taken in such incidents.

IBM to set up software lab in Kerala; CM hails decision

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 4 (PTI) Technology giant IBM on Wednesday announced that it is working to establish a Software Lab in Kochi.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Viajayan hailed the IT major's decision, saying this will pave the way for a huge leap in the state's IT development.

The announcement came a day after Chief Minister Vijayan, IBM India Managing Director Sandip Patel and Vice President, IBM India Software Labs Gaurav Sharma - discussed the role of technology in accelerating the states digital mission in a virtual meeting.

India: Kerala govt relaxes lockdown curbs; shops to open 6 days

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 4 (PTI) The Kerala government on Wednesday announced easing of the lockdown curbs, imposed in the state in view of the spread of COVID-19.

Health Minister Veena George, who made a statement in this regard in the state Assembly, said it would be a triple lockdown for shops located in an area, where over 10 of the 1000 people of the population are infected in a week.

India: Kerala inoculates over 400,960 people in a single day

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 30 (PTI) Kerala administered a record number of over 4.96 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, State Health Minister Veena George said.

George said the health department today vaccinated 496,619 people through 1,753 vaccination centres across the state, of which 1,498 were government and the rest private centres.

On July 24, the state had vaccinated 4.91 lakh people.

The minister in a release said such record vaccination is possible only if the state gets enough supply of vaccines.

India: Evil forces trying to brainwash, exploit kids via online games, darknet: Kerala CM

Thiruvananthapuram,Jul 28 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said "evil forces" are "deliberately" trying to brainwash children via various platforms like online gaming and the darknet and strict action is required against the same.
