India: Rao strips T'gana Health Minister Rajender of portfolio

Hyderabad, May 1 (PTI) A day after an inquiry was ordered into the land grabbing allegations levelled against Health Minister Etala Rajender, his portfolio was transferred to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday.

"On the advice of the Chief Minister of Telangana, the Honble Governor has approved the transfer of the Medical and Health and Family Welfare portfolio from Etala Rajender to the CM with immediate effect," an official communiqu said.

Now Rajender would remain a minister without any portfolio in KCR's cabinet.

India: Telangana to administer free COVID-19 vaccine to all: CM

Hyderabad, Apr 24 (PTI): The Telangana government will administer COVID-19 vaccine free of cost to the entire population in the state irrespective of their age, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced on Saturday.

Rao said it would cost more than Rs 2,500 crore to vaccinate everyone, and taking into consideration the importance of lives of people, this amount is worth spending.

The CM issued instructions to the Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and officers of the Medical and Health department in this regard, an official release said.

India: Telangana MLC poll: TRS candidates maintains lead

Hyderabad, Mar 20 (PTI) The ruling TRS candidates continued to hold the lead over their rivals on Saturday as counting of votes in the election to Telangana Legislative Council from two Graduates constituencies was underway.

Vani Devi, TRS nominee from Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy- Hyderabad Graduates' constituency, was ahead of her nearest BJP rival and sitting MLC N Ramachander Rao as the process of elimination of candidates with less number of votes and counting of second preference votes was currently on, official sources said.

India: Two autos, hotel set on fire in Telangana

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (PTI) Two auto-rickshaws and a hotel were allegedly set on fire at a village in Bhainsa of Nirmal district on Friday, police said.

With the help of CCTV footage and eye witnesses, police identified five people allegedly involved in the crime and registered a case against them. One of them has been arrested and efforts were on to nab the others, a police release said.

Meanwhile, an attempt to trigger fire was stopped by police and a man has been arrested in this regard.

India: 54% of Hyderabad's population have antibodies against coronavirus

Hyderabad, Mar 4 (PTI) A seroprevalence study done in Hyderabad has revealed that around 54 per cent of the city's residents developed antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, indicating prior exposure to coronavirus.

According to a CCMB release on Thursday, the joint study by the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) and vaccine-maker Bharat Biotech considered around 9,000 samples.

The scientists checked for antibodies against the virus in people across 30 wards of the city.

India: NBW issued against Digvijay Singh in defamation case

Hyderabad, Feb 22 (PTI): A local court on Monday issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh for not appearing before it in connection with a defamation case filed against him in 2017.

A Special Court for Trial of Cases pending against MPs/MLAs issued the NBW against Digvijay Singh after he failed to appear before it in connection with a defamation case filed against him by the AIMIM.

India: Hyderabad recognised as a '2020 Tree City of the World'

Hyderabad, Feb 18 (PTI): Hyderabad has been recognised as a '2020 Tree City of the World' by the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.

The recognition is for the commitment of the city to growing and maintaining urban forest.

India: Final batch of LRSAM Missiles flagged off from APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex

Hyderabad, Feb 14 (PTI):The final production batch of Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM), designed and developed by DRDO in collaboration with various industry partners and integrated by BDL, was flagged off at DRDL, A P J Abdul Kalam Missile Complex here on Sunday.

The event was held in the presence of G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and DRDO Chairman and Rear Admiral V Rajasekhar, Director, Defence Machine Design Establishment, a Defence release said.
