STOCKHOLM, Feb 7 (NNN-XINHUA) – Inflation continues to hover at lofty levels in Sweden, with food prices registering the largest monthly increases in a year, according to a report.

In a survey, covering around 44,000 items, price comparison site, Matpriskollen, found that food prices increased by 1.3 percent in Jan, which is one of the largest monthly increases, since inflation took off sharply in Jan, 2022, Swedish Television (SVT) reported.

STOCKHOLM, Jan 29 (NNN-XINHUA) — Sweden’s Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom said on Saturday that the country’s North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) process has paused, local media reported.

“The events of the last few weeks have temporarily caused the process to a pause,” Billstrom told Expressen newspaper, adding that the Swedish government was now investing energy and time to try to push forward the process.

STOCKHOLM, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Sweden's foreign ministry on Saturday warned Swedes in Turkey to avoid crowds and demonstrations following protests there over the burning of the Koran by a far-right politician in Stockholm last week.

Last week Turkey suspended talks with Sweden and Finland on their applications to join NATO after the protest at which Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right political party Hard Line, burned a copy of the Koran outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.

“There is an urgent need to strengthen the external borders, increase returns, and prevent irregular migration,” they said, according to a statement, issued by the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Turkey on Saturday canceled a planned visit by Sweden’s defense minister in response to anti-Turkish protests that increased tension between the two countries as Sweden seeks Turkey’s approval to join NATO.

A far-right activist from Denmark received permission from police to stage a protest outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm where he burned the Quran, Islam’s holy book. A separate pro-Kurdish demonstration was held later Saturday in the Swedish capital.

STOCKHOLM, Jan 19 (Reuters) - The Swedish government announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine on Thursday that will include armoured infantry fighting vehicles and the Archer artillery system.

The package is worth 4.3 billion Swedish crowns ($419 million) and will also include light, portable NLAW anti-tank weapons, mine-clearing equipment and assault rifles.

"Ukraine's victory in this war is of almost indescribable importance," Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson told a news conference, adding that Ukraine was fighting for the freedom of all of Europe.
