STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Climate activist Greta Thunberg is back in school after a gap year in which she emerged as the voice of young people trying to save the planet from global warming and a thorn in the side of politicians she sees as dragging their heels over change.

Posting a picture of herself with a backpack and pushing a bicycle, the Swedish 17-year-old tweeted: “My gap year from school is over, and it feels so great to finally be back in school again!”

STOCKHOLM, Aug 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The EU’s health agency urged countries seeing an increase in cases of COVID-19 to reinstate some curbs, warning of a resurgence of cases in parts of Europe.

In its latest risk assessment, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said there was evidence that the novel coronavirus was picking up speed.

STOCKHOLM, June 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) —Swedish state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell has rejected a warning from the World Health Organization that included Sweden among countries in Europe at risk of a Covid-19 resurgence.

The WHO on Thursday said several countries and territories were seeing a rise in infections. Eleven were in the UN agency’s Europe region.

Dr Tegnell told Swedish TV it was a “total misinterpretation of the data”.

SWEDEN, June 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) – China and Pakistan possess more nuclear weapons than India, according to a new yearbook released by a leading conflict and armaments think-tank today.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI)’s Yearbook 2020, pegs the number of nuclear warheads in the Chinese arsenal at 320, while the nuclear forces of Pakistan and India are estimated to have 160 and 150 weapons, respectively.

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Returning to a fully functioning internal market in the European Union would do more to help economic recovery than a mooted recovery fund, Swedish Finance Minister Magdalana Andersson said on Tuesday.

“Any step we take forward has to be combined with a fully functioning internal market for all goods,” she told reporters.

Andersson said Sweden supported an EU role in supporting economic growth but that the 500 billion euros ($548 billion)suggested by France and Germany was “very high” and needed to be discussed.
