Kuwait's emir reappoints PM to form new cabinet after parliament standoff

KUWAIT (Reuters) - Kuwait’s emir reappointed Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah as prime minister on Sunday after the cabinet resigned last week in a standoff with parliament over its vote to question the premier on issues including his choice of ministers.

Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Sabah, facing his first big political challenge since taking power in September, tasked Sheikh Sabah with nominating a new cabinet for approval, state news agency KUNA said.

Kuwait schools to resume after vaccinating 65% of population

02 Jan 2021; MEMO: Students will return to schools in Kuwait after 65 per cent of the Kuwaiti population have been vaccinated against COVID-19, Al-Qabas newspaper revealed.

The Kuwaiti daily reported that it would not be obligatory for teachers to be vaccinated. However, they were included within the recommended categories to be vaccinated.

Kuwait allows return of expat healthcare workers

KUWAIT CITY, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah accepted on Sunday the resignation of the government submitted by the prime minister, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) said.

The emir ordered the cabinet to serve as caretaker until a new government would be formed, KUNA said.

Firefighters Rescued 83 People As Heavy Rains Swept Kuwait

KUWAIT, Nov 30 (NNN-KUNA) – Firefighters rescued a total of 83 peopl, during heavy rains that hit Kuwait over the past two days, Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), said.

The people rescued were trapped in their vehicles, in areas where rainwater has accumulated, most of which were in Al-Jahra governorate, the Public Relations and Information Department at KFF said.

Authorities received more than 170 emergency calls, mostly in desert areas, KFF explained, adding that, no injuries were reported, as firefighters handled all emergency cases it received.
