Pakistan: Retired Army general arrested on charges of inciting public against national institutions

Islamabad, Feb 27 (PTI) A high-ranking retired Pakistan Army general was arrested early Monday morning on charges of inciting the public against national institutions.

Lt General (retd.) Amjad Shoaib, a prominent supporter of former prime minister Imran Khan, was detained by the Islamabad police from his residence in the federal capital after a first information report (FIR) was registered against him at the Ramna police station on Sunday by Magistrate Owais Khan.

Armed men attack police station in Pakistan's Karachi

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- A group of armed men opened fire at a police station in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Friday, police officials said.

According to the local police, no casualties have been reported so far from the attack, adding that the assailants hurled hand grenades before making their way into the police station building.

Security and rescue teams have reached the area and cordoned it off.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

In October, Asian Cricket Council president and BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said that India will not travel to Pakistan next year for the 50-over Asia Cup event after which PCB had threatened to pull out of the World Cup scheduled to be held in India.

Pakistan Supreme Court directs police to register FIR of attack on Imran Khan within 24 hours

Islamabad, Nov 7 (PTI) Pakistan's Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Inspector General of the Punjab province to register a case on the gun attack on Imran Khan within 24 hours, a directive hailed by the former prime minister's party as a “first step towards justice”.

On Sunday, Khan said that an FIR has not been registered on the botched "assassination attempt" on his life as authorities are refusing to file the case unless he removes an Army general's name from the complaint.

China, Saudi Arabia assure Pakistan of $13 billion in funding amid ongoing crises

06 Nov 2022; MEMO: China and Saudi Arabia have guaranteed $13 billion in funding to Pakistan as it continues to struggle with economic and environmental crises.

According to the newspaper Dawn, Pakistani Finance Minister Ishaq Dar told reporters that China said it will provide $4 billion worth of sovereign loans to the country, as well as refinancing a further $3.3 billion in commercial bank borrowings and increasing currency swaps by up to $1.45 billion.
