India: BJP says Nitish to be Bihar CM even if it outperforms JD(U)

Patna, Oct 6 (PTI) Ending days of intense speculation, the NDA on Tuesday announced its seat-sharing formula for Bihar assembly polls under which JD(U) will contest on 122 seats and BJP 121 out of a total of 243 seats.

BJP backed to the hilt Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as its leader in the state and rebuffed a rebellious Chirag Paswan, while acknowledging his LJP as an ally "at the Centre".

Motihari (Bihar), Oct 2 (PTI) Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Friday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging he is running his government in an atmosphere of "fear".

On Gandhi Jayanti, she also invoked the Father of the Nation, to assail the government which, she claimed, swears by his name but demolishes his ideals through its actions.

India: Bihar BSP president quits party, joins RJD

Patna, Oct 3 (PTI) The BSP of Mayawati which is part of a three-party alliance headed by Upendra Kushwaha of RLSP for Bihar polls, suffered a setback on Saturday when its state unit president Bharat Bind quit and joined RJD.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav gave membership of the party to the BSP leader.

Yadav released a picture admitting Bind into the party on his twitter and also the party's social media platform.

India: Cong to discuss seat-sharing in Bihar on Wednesday

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday will hold internal discussions on the seat-sharing arrangements with like-minded parties for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

According to sources, the party has called its Bihar unit chief Madan Mohan Jha and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sadanand Singh to the national capital on Wednesday.

The Congress is contesting the Bihar assembly polls as part of the 'Mahagathbandhan' with the RJD, Left parties and some smaller state parties.

Patna, Sep 28 (PTI) It was "aayaram gayaram" politics in Bihar on Monday when the ruling JD(U) as well as the opposition RJD claimed to have scored brownie points with the induction of turncoats into their respective folds.

Rashtriya Janata Dal dealt a body blow to its renegade alliance partner Rashtriya Lok Samata Party when the latters state unit chief Bhudeo Chaudhary joined Lalu Prasads party.

India: Nitish and Nadda hold seat-sharing talks for Bihar polls

Patna, Sep 12 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday held a crucial meeting with BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda on seat-sharing among the NDA alliance partners for the assembly elections in the state.

Nadda, who was accompanied by party colleagues like Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, national general secretary and state in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and state president Sanjay Jaiswal, called on Kumar at his official residence 1, Anney Marg.

India: Manjhi announces return to NDA ahead of Bihar polls

Patna, Sep 2 (PTI) Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday announced that his Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) has joined NDA in Bihar where assembly elections are due in October-November.

The party had earlier in the day said that it will become part of the ruling coalition on Thursday, but the announcement was made this afternoon itself by Manjhi at a peess conference he held at his residence here.

Patna, Aug 4 (PTI) In a serious twist in the actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case, the Bihar government on Tuesday decided to recommend a CBI inquiry into the sensational death by suicide case of the Bollywood star on a request from his father, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.

India: 26 killed by lightning strikes in Bihar

Patna, Jul 2 (PTI) Twenty-six people were killed after being struck by lightning across Bihar on Thursday, officials said.

More than 100 people have died due to lightning strikes in the state in the last one week, they added.

According to the state disaster management department, the casualties were reported from eight districts -- Patna, Samastipur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Katihar, Madhepura and Purnea.

India: Lightning, Thunderstorm Kill 11 In Bihar

NEW DELHI, July 1 (NNN-PTI) – At least 11 people were killed, due to lightning and thunderstorm, in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, officials said today.

The deaths have taken place during the past 24 hours in several parts of the state.

“In Bihar, lightning claimed 11 lives in different parts of the state during the past 24 hours. Four deaths were reported from Saran, two each in Patna and Nawada, and one each from Lakasarai and Jamui,” a local government spokesperson said.
