MANAGUA, April 16 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The signing of projects between Chinese and Nicaraguan authorities on thermal energy and housing construction boosts bilateral cooperation between China and Nicaragua.

The Nicaraguan Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Óscar Mojica highlighted the housing program developed by the Sandinista government, in association with the Chinese Agency for International Development Cooperation (CIDCA).

Mojica described as extraordinary the advances in the process of organizing housing projects called ‘Nuevas Victorias’, in which, in the first stage some 920 houses will be built for social benefit. This project includes a total of 12,034 houses in 84 municipalities, 15 departments and two autonomous regions over three years.

On the other hand, the executive president of the Nicaraguan Electricity Company, Ernesto Martínez, thanked the Chinese for helping to increase the installed power capacity to 150 megawatts, by building additional thermal plants.

The Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Iván Acosta, pointed out that China opens a possibility of cooperation under different financing modalities, which builds a path to turn China into the largest bilateral partner.

The president of CIDCA, Luo Zhaohui, who is visiting Nicaragua for the first time, stated that other projects in the fields of agriculture, education and infrastructure were also discussed. “We pay a lot of attention to the relationship between China and Nicaragua; we are sure that in the future we will work together to promote, to a higher level, the relations between the two countries”, he emphasized.

During the signing of the projects, Nicaragua’s presidential adviser for investment, trade and international cooperation, Laureano Ortega, thanked President Xi Jinping and the Communist Party of China for the solidarity cooperation that CIDCA offers to his country.
