India: Electioneering also increases rates of flowers in Kanpur

Kanpur: Flood in river Ganga and assembly elections are the two prime reasons for a surge in rates of flower here.

Owing to swell in the river Gangs the flower farming has been badly affected.

It is about two months since the rise of water level in the river the farmers engaged in farming the flowers are dismayed.

Their expectation has been dashed as the produce has been destroyed due to flood. The adjacent areas ideal for producing the flowers have been inundated.

This has fully reduced the stock of produce before the farmers. It was due to this very reason the rates of flowers have been increasing.

While, the demand for garlands during the assembly elections has also sweeped. This has brought the rate of rose and marigold on steep high. This has got a further push amid the valentine week.

The way momentum of canvassing rises higher the rates of rose and marigold are also rising above expectations.

Use of garland in campaigning and public meetings continues to be sufficient thereby leading to a spurt in demand suddenly.

Areas like Sarsaul, Sheikhpura, Maharajpur and Chaubeypur remain prominent spots for the supply of the flowers in the city.

According to the sources, the rose sells at a rate of Rs 400 per Kg while the marigold at Rs 300 per Kg here.

Though the stockists also reveal that flowers have been brought here from other states like Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Jaipur in Rajasthan and Pune in Mumbai.
