India: Budding players' ordeal tells the real story!

KANPUR: It was a lethargic attitude yet unexciting day at Green Park here. There were a handful of sports girls present for their trial to secure admission at the sports hostel. They arrived in time but forced to wait for hours exuding a vibe in the air that tells a story in itself. That sometimes they left in the lurch and other times, they do not have to be left high and dry. That it is possible for budding talents to strand or something like it, in the strangest of places. Their ordeal tells that real story better than mere written words.

The sports department made a call to the players of Kanpur Division to attend the trial camp on Sunday morning. In accordance with this information, they arrived at the venue on time. Etawah girls interested in volleyball and handball were present in the morning but they were not told of the change in trial timing. They wandered for as many as seven hours as was reported. The reason behind this confusion was sudden change effected in the trial timing but there was not followed proper information mechanism. Even they were not provided with space within the ground to relax and prepare. They stranded and waited outside the UPCA office on the road. They sat exhaling tension with optimism.

A neglectful attitude of the sports officials at the Green Park led them to wait for admission trial to the sports hostel for long hours. It was later they learnt of the timing has changed for 2 pm. The three-day annual sports fest of Ambedkar Institute of Technology for Handicapped was underway on the football ground. It ended on Monday. On the final day the chief guest was HBTU Vice-chancellor Prof NB Singh who honoured the players.

When the deputy sports officer was informed about this matter, he started talking of bringing improvements in the work culture. If the room was available for outstation players why had it been opened? The players were sitting on the roadside but none of the officials approached them.

What came afterwards in the name of the trial at 3 p.m. was only show off? Hundreds of students were present on the football ground where the trial procedure was done. How will flaws be minimised and coaches and staff mobilised?
