Serbian Army Completes Biggest Joint Tactical Exercise In Decades

BELGRADE, Jun 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The Serbian Army completed yesterday, a joint tactical exercise “Lightning Strike 2021” at the Pester training ground, in the south-western part of the country, said the government in a press release.

According to the press release, this year’s military exercise was the biggest joint tactical exercise in the past several decades.

The final part of the exercise, involving 2,300 army officers, was held in the presence of the state and military leadership of Serbia, including President Aleksandar Vucic and the diplomatic corps at the Pester training ground.

It was carried out by units of the Army, Air Force and Air Defence, the 72nd Special Operations Brigade and 63rd Parachute Brigade, and involved tanks, combat vehicles, artillery systems and weapons, airplanes, helicopters, remotely piloted aircraft, air defence systems and weapons, infantry and special units.

Vucic said after the drill that, Serbia “is not interested in any wars or conflicts,” but to strengthen the army for the sake of defence.

The exercise, which started on Jun 15, involved 15,000 soldiers at eight locations in Serbia.
