26 September 2023; MEMO: Palestine refugees in Lebanon yesterday held a protest in front of the Dutch embassy in Beirut calling for Amsterdam to release humanitarian activist Amin Abu Rashed, Quds Press reported.
Abu Rashed, a Palestinian-Dutch national, was detained along with his daughter Israa after a campaign led by the Israeli group Ad Kan in the Netherlands.
The refugees, who held pictures for Abu Rashed, said that his humanitarian efforts contributed to easing their suffering over the years as they have been living in difficult economic conditions.
According to Quds Press, the refugees handed a letter to the Dutch ambassador in Lebanon urging him to push his government to release Abu Rashed.
They reiterated that Abu Rashed’s activities included raising funds for programmes related to helping orphans, the elderly, disabled, students, patients who do not have sufficient funds to cover their treatment costs, and widows.
Incited by the Zionist Ad Kan group, Dutch authorities detained Abu Rashed and accused him of raising funds for programmes carried out by organisations linked to Hamas.
