Cuba and China to promote 10 new joint scientific projects

HAVANA, Dec 30 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Cuba’s Science, Technology and Environment Ministry (CITMA) announced that Cuba and Chinese scientific institutions will be conducting 10 new joint projects.

The entities will be focusing on a great number of fields, including those related to food, nanotechnology and nanosciences, automation, health and climate variability, among others.

2023 a difficult year for the Cuban economy: Economy Minister

HAVANA, Dec 21 (NNN-ACN) — During the Second Ordinary Session of Parliament and with Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and President Miguel Díaz-Canel present, Alejandro Gil Fernandez, Cuba’s deputy prime minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, remarked that the 3% GDP growth for 2023 proved to be an impossible target due to the lack of foreign currency and fuel.

Cuba: The collapse of a building in Havana has left 3 people dead and at least 2 others injured

HAVANA (AP) — A building in the historic center of Havana that housed 13 families partially collapsed, leaving three people dead and at least two injured, Cuban authorities said Wednesday.

Authorities in Havana said that among the three fatalities were one resident and two firefighters who got trapped in the building when they were helping evacuate people.

A part of the three-story building collapsed Tuesday’s night, and other sections crumbled early Wednesday.

Cuba: More representatives confirm their attendance to G-77+China Summit

Cuba: International delegations arrive in Havana for G77+China Summit

HAVANA, Sept 13 (NNN-XINHUA) — Delegations from different countries arrived in Havana on Tuesday for the upcoming Group of 77 and China Summit (G77+China Summit) to be held on Sept 15-16.

The G77+China Summit is expected to gather heads of state and high-level government officials from around the world, as well as receive more than 100 delegations of the bloc’s member countries and representatives of international organizations.

Cuba arrests 17 for allegedly helping recruit some of its citizens to fight for Russia in Ukraine

HAVANA (AP) — Cuban authorities have arrested 17 people in connection with what they described as a network to recruit Cuban nationals to fight for Russia in Ukraine.

The head of criminal investigations for Cuba’s Interior Ministry, César Rodríguez, said late Thursday on state media that at least three of the 17 arrested are part of recruitment efforts inside the island country.

Cuba uncovers human trafficking of Cubans to fight for Russia in Ukraine

HAVANA, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Cuba has uncovered a human trafficking ring that coerced its citizens to fight for Russia in the war in Ukraine, its foreign ministry said, adding that Cuban authorities were working to "neutralize and dismantle" the network.

The statement from Cuba's foreign ministry late on Monday gave few details, but noted the trafficking ring was operating both within the Caribbean island nation, thousands of miles from Moscow, and in Russia.

Cuba seeks to accelerate tourism industry's recovery

HAVANA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian tourist Joao Oliveira drinks a bottle of water in Havana's Old Quarter to keep hydrated amid the blistering temperatures in the Caribbean.

The 32-year-old told Xinhua that traveling to Cuba had been a thrilling experience since he had learned a lot about the history and culture of the island nation.

"Cuban and Brazilian people have many things in common," he said. "People here are friendly. I am thinking of returning next summer."

Ecuadorian police detain six suspects in assassination of presidential candidate

HAVANA, August 10. /TASS/: At least six people have been detained as part of an investigation into the assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, the South American country’s Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

"As of now, six people were detained during raids in the Conocoto and San Bartolo [neighborhoods] of [the capital] Quito as part of an investigation into the assassination of Fernando Villavicencio," the statement reads.
