Chilean Companies Forecast “Above Normal” Inflation In Next 12 Months

SANTIAGO, May 4 NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Chilean companies projected the country’s inflation will be “well above normal” in the next 12 months, according to a Business Perceptions Report, released by the Central Bank of Chile yesterday.

The report, which summarises opinions from companies across the country, said, although the effect of inflation on the companies’ performance has so far been insignificant, there is a general concern about its impact on household consumption decisions, and the possible effect on the companies’ future performance.

Chile constitution drafters set for key debate on mining, environment

SANTIAGO, April 21 (Reuters) - Chile's constitutional assembly will start debating dozens of articles on Thursday regarding mining, water and environmental rights that could reshape how the world's top copper producer regulates production of the red metal and minerals like lithium.

The debate will start at 12 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) over 52 articles including protecting water sources, glaciers and wetlands before voting later today and on Friday. The proposals overall establish stricter environmental regulation for mining.

Chile announces unprecedented water rationing plan as drought enters 13th year

SANTIAGO, April 11 (Reuters) - As a punishing, record-breaking drought enters its 13th year, Chile on Monday announced an unprecedented plan to ration water for the capital of Santiago, a city of nearly 6 million.

"A city can't live without water," Claudio Orrego, the governor of the Santiago metropolitan region, said in a press conference. "And we're in an unprecedented situation in Santiago's 491-year history where we have to prepare for there to not be enough water for everyone who lives here."

Presidents of Bolivia, Peru discuss bilateral issues while in Chile

SANTIAGO (Chile), March 14 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Presidents Pedro Castillo Terrones of Peru and Luis Arce Catacora of Bolivia held a private meeting in Santigo de Chile on the sides of Gabriel Boric Font’s inauguration to discuss the possibility of supplying Peru with LPG, among other issues.

Castillo and Arce talked about “cooperation on various issues of shared interests between the two countries”, according to the official Twitter account of the Presidency of Peru.

Gabriel Boric inaugurated as youngest president of Chile

SANTIAGO, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Gabriel Boric Font, a 36-year-old leftist politician, was inaugurated on Friday as Chile's new president, the youngest to hold the office, for the period between 2022-2026.

A former student leader, and legal and social sciences graduate from the University of Chile, Boric was sworn in along with his cabinet during a ceremony at the National Congress in Valparaiso, about 100 km from the capital Santiago.

Illegal migrants: Chile to build longer ditch along Bolivian border

SANTIAGO, March 7 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Less than a week before the end of President Sebastián Piñera’s term, Chile’s government has announced plans to build a long ditch on the border with Bolivia as a measure to control the migration crisis stemming from the illegal arrival of people.

Interior Minister Rodrigo Delgado disclosed the intended measure at the National Defense Headquarters in Tamarugal, where a state of exception is in force. President Piñera extended it last week for yet another fortnight.

Chile is to become a “regional, multinational and intercultural State”, according to the new constitution

Chile: Interior Minister wants northern borders fully closed

SANTIAGO, Feb 19 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Chile’s Interior Minister Rodrigo Delgado wants to close the country’s northern border as a new stage of the “state of exception” already in force in four provinces where the migration crisis is escalating.

“The time has come to close the border even more and be able to have the tools that the new immigration legislation and the state of exception are giving us. We are going to continue using them and we do not rule out taking more measures,” he told reporters Friday.

Chile Hits New Record Of Daily COVID-19 Cases With 9,454 Infections

SANTIAGO, Jan 17 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Chile, for the second consecutive day, registered a record number of daily COVID-19 cases, after reporting 9,454 infections in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said yesterday.

Cases from the past seven days rose 144 percent from the previous week, and cases from the past 14 days increased 249 percent compared to the previous two weeks.
