India: Two held for links with terrorists arrested from Karnal

Ferozepur, May 6 (PTI) The Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have nabbed two alleged accomplices of the four suspected Pakistan-linked terrorists, who were arrested with explosives in Haryana's Karnal.

The two arrested have been identified as Akashdeep Singh, alias Akash (25), a resident of Peerke village; and Jashanpreet Singh, alias Jass (19), a resident of Faridkot, police said.

India: Seeds of hatred don't bloom in Punjab: CM Mann

Chandigarh, May 3 (PTI) Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said hatemongers have no place in Punjab and seeds of hatred don't bloom on this land, remarks which come days after two groups clashed in Patiala.

Anything can be planted in the fertile land of Punjab but not the seeds of hatred, he said addressing a gathering in Malerkotla after offering prayers at the local Idgah on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Mann said, "Punjab's social bonding is very strong. We live in brotherhood and those who spread hatred find no place here".

India: Punjab to replicate Delhi's education

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) The Punjab government will replicate Delhi's education model in the state where students from all economic backgrounds will get quality education, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Monday.

Mann, who is on a two-day visit to Delhi along with his senior officers, toured health institutes and schools in the national capital to understand the "Delhi model" and replicate it in the state.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia accompanied Mann to a Delhi government school in Chirag Enclave.

India: Babbar Khalsa terrorist arrested in Punjab's Mohali

Chandigarh, Apr 24 (PTI) The Punjab Police on Sunday nabbed a Babbar Khalsa terrorist, who has been evading arrest for the past 12 years and wanted in the Ludhiana's Shingar cinema bomb blast and other cases.

Charanjit Singh, alias Patialavi, was arrested from Mohali's Dera Bassi by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police.

India: 300 units of free electricity from July 1 in Punjab

Chandigarh, Apr 16 (PTI) The Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab announced 300 units of free electricity to households from July 1.

The announcement was made in advertisements published by the state's information and public relations department in various newspapers on Saturday.

It was related to a 30-day report card of the AAP government in Punjab. A formal announcement is expected to be made later on Saturday.

Giving 300 units of free electricity was one of the major poll promises of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Punjab assembly election.

India: PM Modi 'robbing' Punjab of its rights: Mann

Chandigarh, Apr 1 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "robbing" the state of its rights amid a political row over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent announcement that central service rules will apply to employees of Chandigarh.

Mann said this while winding up the discussion during the one-day special Assembly session, in which a resolution seeking immediate transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab was passed.

Chandigarh, Apr 1 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday moved a resolution in the state Assembly seeking immediate transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab.

In the past, the House has passed a number of resolutions urging the Central government to transfer Chandigarh to Punjab, he said.

India: Punjab CM launches anti-corruption helpline number

Chandigarh, Mar 23 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday launched an anti-corruption helpline number that will allow people to upload videos of officials asking for a bribe or indulging in other malpractices.

Mann launched the number -- 9501200200 -- on the martyrdom day of legandary freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, and called it "an anti-corruption action line".

Mann, who was sworn-in as chief minister on March 16 at Khatkar Kalan, sought support of people in order to root out corruption within a month.

India: Navjot Singh Sidhu resigns as Punjab Congress chief

Chandigarh, Mar 16 (PTI) Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday said he has resigned as the party's Punjab chief.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi had on Tuesday asked its state unit chiefs in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur to put in their papers after the party's drubbing in the recently held Assembly polls in these states.

The cricketer-turned-politician shared information about his resignation on his twitter handle.

As desired by the Congress President I have sent my resignation , his tweet read.

India: Bhagwant Mann sworn in as Punjab chief minister

SBS Nagar (Pb), Mar 16 (PTI) AAP leader Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as the Punjab chief minister on Wednesday.

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mann in the swearing-in ceremony that took place at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Punjab's Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar district.

Only Mann took the oath during the ceremony.

The event was supposed to start at 12.30 pm but got delayed and was held at around 1.25 pm.
