Iran warns war fronts will expand if Israel doesn’t stop Gaza attacks

Tehran, IRNA- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has warned that war fronts will likely expand if Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip do not stop.

“If the attacks by the Zionist regime on Gaza do not stop, the expansion of war fronts is likely, and the possibility of this increases every hour,” Amirabdollahian said in an interview with Al Jazeera.

Iran’s top diplomat added that a message has been sent to the Israeli regime through its allies that if its atrocities do not cease in Gaza, “it will be very late tomorrow".

Qatar: Former Hamas chief calls for protests, neighbours to join war against Israel

DOHA, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Former Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal called for protests across the Muslim world on Friday in support of the Palestinians and for the peoples of neighbouring countries to join the fight against Israel.

"[We must] head to the squares and streets of the Arab and Islamic world on Friday," Meshaal, who currently heads Hamas's diaspora office, said in a recorded statement sent to Reuters.

Meshaal, who is based in Qatar, said the governments and peoples of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt have a bigger duty to support the Palestinians.

Qatar to host international conference to address Islamophobia

27 September 2023; MEMO: Georgetown University in Qatar plans to hold an international conference on Saturday to explore the root causes of the rising anti-Islamic sentiments, Anadolu Agency reports.

Themed “Global Histories and Practices of Islamophobia”, the two-day event will bring together a host of scholars, activists, policymakers and journalists.

U.S. and Iran trade detainees after Qatar deal unfreezes $6 billion

DOHA, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Five U.S. detainees flew out of Iran on Monday in a swap for five Iranians held in the U.S. in a rare deal between the arch enemies that also unfroze $6 billion of Tehran's funds.

A plane sent by mediator Qatar flew the five U.S. citizens and two of their relatives out of Tehran soon after both sides received confirmation the funds had been transferred to accounts in Doha, a source briefed on the matter told Reuters.

At the same time, two of the five Iranians landed in Qatar, a U.S. official said. Three have opted not to return to Iran.

Taliban ask for return of Afghan money in meeting with US envoy

Qatar to provide Ukraine with $100m in humanitarian aid

28 July 2023; MEMO: Qatar will provide Ukraine with $100 million in humanitarian aid to support health, education and demining, Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, said on Friday after talks with the Gulf State's Prime Minister, Reuters reports.

Qatar had earlier, on Friday, announced that Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, who also serves as Foreign Minister, was visiting Ukraine.

Qatar appoints its first ambassador to UAE since 2017

24 July 2023; MEMO: Qatar on Sunday announced the appointment of its first ambassador to the United Arab Emirates in more than six years after the UAE, along with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, severed ties with Doha in 2017.

The Emir of Qatar appointed Dr Sultan Salmeen Saeed Al Mansouri as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates.

QatarEnergy's 2022 profit surges 58% to $42.5bn

21 July 2023; MEMO: State-owned QatarEnergy's net profit jumped 58 per cent to QAR154.6 billion ($42.47 billion) in 2022, compared to QAR97.9 billion in 2021, Reuters reports.

According to the report, revenue rose to QAR189 billion in 2022, from QAR120.3 billion in 2021.

Net operating income from the profit share of associates jumped to QAR1 billion from QAR645.8 million in 2021, the report added.

Turkiye, Qatar to launch joint investment for chip production

14 July 2023; MEMO: Turkiye and Qatar will launch a joint investment for semiconductor production, the Turkish Industry and Technology Minister said on Friday, Anadolu Agency reports.

"Qatar decided to move its investment for producing 65-nanometer chips to Turkiye. It is projected to be worth over $60 million," Mehmet Fatih Kacir said at a news conference in the capital, Ankara.

Qatar set to strike second big LNG supply deal with China

20 June 2023; MEMO: Qatar is set to secure a second large gas supply deal with a Chinese state-controlled company in less than a year, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and QatarEnergy are expected to sign a 27-year agreement on Tuesday, under which China will purchase 4 million metric tons of LNG a year from the Gulf state, the report said, citing people briefed on the matter.
