Ministers of Sudan's transitional cabinet sworn in

KHARTOUM, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Ministers of Sudan's transitional cabinet on Sunday were sworn in before the Chairman of the Sovereign Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, according to Xinhua reporter in the capital Khartoum.

Altogether 18 ministers took the constitutional oath before Al-Burhan in the presence of the Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, while two ministers are expected to be appointed later for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.

Sudan welcomes AU decision to lift its membership suspension

KHARTOUM, Sept 7 (NNN-Xinhua) — Sudan’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the decision by the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) to lift suspension of Sudan’s membership at the African Union (AU).

“In the name of Sudan government and people, the foreign ministry warmly welcomes the AU-PSC’s decision to lift suspension of Sudan’s membership at the AU and end freezing its activities,” said the ministry in a statement.

The ministry further reiterated commitment of Sudan, as one the founders of the Organization of African Unity, to the AU’s overall goals.

Sudan’s Hamdok unveils new cabinet

KHARTOUM, Sept 6 (NNN-ANADOLU) — Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok on Thursday announced there will be a new 20-member Cabinet for the transitional period, Anadolu Agency reported.

“We have taken a long time in consultations for the formation of the Cabinet as we need to address the geographical, gender and youth representation,” Hamdok told reporters .

He announced the names of 18 Cabinet ministers and said that there was a need to discuss the appointment of the ministers of the livestock, and the infrastructure and transportation.

Sudan's PM stresses importance of removing Sudan from U.S. terror list

KHARTOUM, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Tuesday reiterated the importance of removing Sudan from the U.S. list of countries "sponsoring terrorism."

"Sudan must be removed from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism and we expect progress in this regard soon," said Hamdok when meeting with the visiting German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

"The economic challenge is big, but it can be tackled," said Hamdok, noting that "we need to address the deterioration in the exchange price, stop inflation and restore confidence in the banking sector."

Sudan's ex-president Bashir charged with corruption, holding illicit foreign currency

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - A Sudanese judge formally indicted former president Omar al-Bashir on charges of possessing illicit foreign currency and corruption on Saturday.

Questioned in court for the first time, Bashir said that he had received $25 million from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as funds from other sources, but that he had not received or used the money for his own benefit.

A lawyer for Bashir said that his client denied the charges against him and that witnesses for the defense would be presented at the next hearing.

Head of Sudan’s transitional military council sworn in as chief of new Sovereign Council

KHARTOUM, Aug 21 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The outgoing head of the Sudanese Transitional Military Council (TMC), Abdel Fattah Burhan, was sworn in on Wednesday as the chief of the freshly formed Sovereign Council (SC), Sputnik news agency reported.

Burhan, who will be heading the SC during a transitional period of 21 months, was sworn in in front of the head of the country’s Supreme Court. Meanwhile, other members of the SC will take oath later on Wednesday.

The TMC is expected to announced its dissolution in coming hours.

Sudan forms sovereign council to lead transition

KHARTOUM, Aug 21 (NNN-Xinhua) — Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC) on Tuesday approved the formation of a joint sovereign council of 11 members, TMC’s spokesman Shams-Eddin Kabashi announced.

The announcement came a day after the trial of Omar al-Bashir, the former Sudanese president, who faces corruption charges.

“The TMC chairman issued a constitutional decree forming the sovereign council under the chairmanship of Lit. Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan,” Kabashi said at a press conference.
