Tajikistan: Dushanbe, Bishkek say committed to agreement on ending confrontation

DUSHANBE, September 25. /TASS/: Peace on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is possibly only if the sides strictly observe the peace agreements, Saymumim Yatimov, chief of Tajikistan’s State Committee on National Security, said on Sunday.

"Peace on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border will be possible if we strictly obey the protocols and documents we have signed," he said after signing a protocol on settling the situation on the border.

Tajikistan: Former SCO chief sees role of organization on the rise in new conditions

DUSHANBE, September 2. /TASS/: Rashid Alimov, a former secretary general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, on Monday said the significance of the organization is ascending as new international relations are shaping up.

Alimov, now a professor at the Tajikistan presidential State Service Academy, made the comments in an interview with TASS ahead of a SCO summit that will take place in the Uzbek city of Samarkand from September 15-16.

Russia: Putin arrives in Tajikistan’s Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, June 28. /TASS/: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tajikistan’s capital of Dushanbe for a working visit on Tuesday for the first time in the past three years.

Putin is scheduled to meet with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The beginning of their meeting will be open to the media and then the two leaders will continue their conversation at a work lunch that will take place in an informal atmosphere.

U.S. may let Tajikistan hold on to fleeing Afghan aircraft

DUSHANBE, June 20 (Reuters) - The United States may let Tajikistan hold on to Afghan military aircraft donated by the U.S. that sought shelter in the Central Asian country following the U.S. withdrawal from Kabul last August, a U.S. military commander said.

U.S.-trained Afghan pilots flew dozens of military planes and helicopters to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as they fled the Islamist Taliban who took over the country as foreign forces withdrew.

The Taliban have demanded that the two countries return the aircraft.

Tajikistan: Situation in Afghanistan cannot be allowed to `collapse’, Lavrov says

DUSHANBE, May 13. /TASS/: The situation in Afghanistan cannot be allowed to collapse, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference in Dushanbe.

"The situation [in Afghanistan] cannot be allowed to collapse again, as this would be too hard for the Afghan people, who have suffered from the presence of NATO for 20 years," Lavrov said after a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.

Yerevan, Baku border delimitation commissions due to meet in Moscow on May 16-17

DUSHANBE, May 12. /TASS/: A meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian commissions on border delimitation and border security is scheduled to take place in Moscow next week, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said on Thursday.

"I want to inform you that we had contacts with the Azerbaijani colleagues on the issue of setting up commissions on border delimitation and border security," the top diplomat said as he met with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Dushanbe.

Over 6,000 militants located near CSTO southern border — President of Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, January 10. /TASS/: There are over 6,000 militants located near the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) southern border - in Afghanistan’s northeast - says President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.

"Overall, according to the intelligence of Tajikistan, there are over 40 camps and terrorist training centers in Afghanistan’s northeastern provinces, which house over 6,000 militants," the Takin president said during the CSTO emergency online summit on Kazakhstan.

Russia-led bloc concludes drills near Afghan border to boost Tajik security

HARB-MAIDON TRAINING GROUND, Tajikistan, Oct 23 (Reuters) - A Russia-led military exercise held over six days near the Tajik-Afghan border, designed to demonstrate Moscow stands ready to protect Dushanbe in the event of an incursion from the south, reached its conclusion on Saturday.

Tajikistan's relations with the Taliban leadership in Kabul have been strained from the start and reports of troop build-up on both sides of the border have alarmed Moscow, which operates a military base in the former Soviet republic.

Russian envoy terms SCO membership as first foreign policy achievement by Raisi

Tehran, IRNA – Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan said on Saturday that the beginning of Iran’s permanent membership process was the first foreign policy achievement of the Raisi administration.

Dzhagaryan expressed content over the decision made by Shanghai Cooperation Organization leaders to accept Iran’s permanent membership in the regional organization.

He said that this was the first foreign policy achievement of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.

Pakistan: PM, Chinese FM discuss Sino-Pak ties, CPEC

DUSHANBE (Tajikistan), Sep 17 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Friday on the sidelines of SCO Council of Heads of State in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe and discussed China-Pakistan bilateral relations, economic corridor and regional situation.

Terming Pakistan and China as ‘iron brothers’ and strategic partners, the prime minister conveyed cordial greetings for Chinese President Xi and Premier Li.

He appreciated China’s support for assisting Pakistan’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
